Cost of living in Spain – Supermarket

When people decide to move, one of the first things they want to find out about is what is the cost of living in Spain. The only tools available at the moment are the sites like Numbeo and Expatistan, and they are far from true – using a random information by random people, on a random list of articles. This is the reason why we decided to publish a comprehensive list of costs you might incur in Valencia. Of course, only some articles are mentioned here, but you can still compare them with the prices you pay at home, and get some kind of a picture.

Most of the prices are taken from Mercadona, one of the biggest supermarket chains in Spain. If shopping in Consum will most likely pay more or less the same. When buying in Carrefour or Al Campo, the prices could be lower – up to 10%  on some articles, but to get this kind of discounts you will have to go to the outskirts.

It is interesting that fruit and vegetable prices in Valencia vary a lot, from shop to shop, but, also, from season to season. So we decided to list September-October prices.  The most expensive are the markets, but the quality there is the highest. Supermarket prices are in the middle, and funny enough, the best prices for fruits and veggies you can get at your local store. Those prices are lower up to 20% than the prices we have listed here, but, the quality there varies too. We didn’t list any prices from the Lidl chain, because

The prices herewith are screened in shops in Valencia. They might differ in the other regions of Spain.
